The newest movie of the Dragon Ball series isn’t just one of the best Dragon Ball movies of all time, it is the the best action movie of the year so far. Dragon Ball Super Broly was released on January 16, 2019 and it has had some solid reviews thus far. It received an 81% from Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.6/10 from IMDb. If I were them, I would definitely rate this movie a little higher because it has a strong story, great characters, and a whole lot of action that will make any Dragon Ball fan extremely happy.
The story is pretty basic, but it is actually really great. The story centers on the three main saiyan: Goku, Vegeta, and Broly, and example the issue between Broly and Vegeta and goes in depth on the planet Vegeta. The first 30 minutes of the film are focused on background information, but it is done in an excellent way that allows us to see a deeper side on Goku’s and Broly’s origins.
Even though the cast is small, the movie has a great cast of characters. We see a lot of iconic characters like Frieza, Bulla, Piccolo, and Beerus. The movie mostly focuses on Broly’s past, but this gives the character much more depth. I learned so much about Broly that I now have a greater sense of respect for the character. The only problem I have is the the movie never mentions Kale from the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga. Kale has very similar powers to Broly and I was kind of surprised that none of the characters mention this.
The movie has one of the best action scenes I have ever seen in a Dragon Ball movie. Toei Animation did a great job of creating the feeling of being in a giant, awesome brawl. The colors pop and the sound effects add a lot of impact. Even if you are not a Dragon Ball fan, you will love the action scenes in this movie.
I definitely recommend this movie to the Dragon Ball community and anyone who loves action movies. The movie does coutines from the amine, so none Dragon Ball fans will have trouble with the story. Even with that, if you just want to see Frieza getting beat up by Broly, this is the movie for you.
