Perspectives Attends State Thespian Festival
The International Thespian Society is a nonprofit organization for high-school theatre students, committed to the advancement of theatre. In Maryland, over 600 high school theatre students in the 9th to 12th grades attend the State Thespian Festival each year. This year, the State Thespian Festival took place at Huntingtown High School in Huntingtown, Maryland. Paint Branch Perspectives students attended this year and had the opportunity to perform a “one act” —also known as a short play with plot. In addition to the one acts, students had the opportunity to participate in workshops to better their acting skills.
Perspectives advisor Ms. Perkins was on the State Thespian Board this year. Regarding her position on the board and her time at the festival she explained, “I joined the State Thespian Board this year so I could help plan the event, and I had to work both days. The students from Paint Branch performed in the Black Box Theatre, attended workshops, and competed in individual events, as well as the Tech Olympics and Trash Costume contests.”
Senior state thespian officer Thiane Gaye raised the most money of all the state thespian officers for Broadway Cares. When asked why others should consider going to the festival next year, Thiane commented, “It’s a great place to meet people with the same interests. The opportunity to go to the Festival is available to anyone who wants to go next year—you don’t have to be a Thespian.”
