Ohene-Akonnor, Cooper Sign Letters of Intent
Paint Branch’s strong football season paid off in more ways than just on the field this season. From improved attendance to a boost in overall school support, this year’s state semi-finalists took Paint Branch football to a whole new level. Another way the team’s success paid off was with increased visibility for the student-athletes who suited up for the 11-2 Panthers. This visibility helped seniors Emmanual Ohene-Akonnor and Gaston Cooper land scholarships that will have them suiting up for the Bowie State Bulldogs and the Duquesne Dukes, respectively, next season.
Cooper had a very impressive season with 40 touchdowns through the air, 3190 passing yards, 22 touchdowns on the ground, and even a touchdown pass. “I felt comfortable at Duquesne,” said Cooper. “The school fulfilled my academic and athletic wants and needs. I felt at home while I was visiting because it was in Pittsburgh, where I have family. Duquesne has a solid football program that will fit me well.” Cooper may be able to get playing time with the Dukes his freshman year, but he is also considering red-shirting.
Ohene-Akonnor helped anchor the offensive line at offensive tackle and played a major role in protecting Cooper while he was in the pocket. Ohene-Akonnor will be looking at playing either tight end or offensive tackle for the Bulldogs, depending on how much he weighs after 2-a-days. “I believe Bowie State can help develop me as a student-athlete,” said Ohene-Akonnor. ” I chose Bowie State because their football team actually feels like a family.”
