The wait is finally over, The Recording Academy has announced the 66th annual Grammy award nominations. The biggest night for music will be happening Sunday, February 4th, 2024 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. This is the 66th year for the Grammys.
The greatest songs, albums, composers, and performers from the qualifying year are honored at the Grammy Award presentation. The Academy announced various revisions to the eligibility requirements and categories for the 2024 ceremony.
According to the grammy.com article written by Morgan Enos, There are some new category additions. “These history-making category additions are part of a larger set of updates and amendments, which go into effect immediately at the 2024 GRAMMYs, aimed at making the GRAMMY Awards process more fair, transparent and accurate,’’ according to Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr.
November 10, 2023, saw the announcement of the nominations. Leading the field with nine nominations is SZA. Victoria Monét, Phoebe Bridgers, and Serban Ghenea earned the second, third, and fourth most nominations respectively. Hazel, the 2-year-old daughter of Monét, made Grammy Awards history by being the youngest nominee ever. She was a featured artist on her mother’s song “Hollywood,” which is up for Best Traditional R&B Performance, according to the vulture.com article by Jennifer Zhan.
The voting period for the final round is set to run from December 14, 2023 through January 4, 2024. The winners will be revealed on television and during the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony. The premiere ceremony will feature performances by smaller artists and announce some award winners in categories like Songwriter of the Year, Producer of the Year, etc.
The highly anticipated categories this year include Record of the Year, which includes SZA, Billie Eilish, Victoria Monet, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Boygenius, and Jon Batiste. Album of the Year which features projects by Jon Batiste, Boygenius, Lana Del Rey, Janelle Monae, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and SZA. In the Best New Artist category, the nominee list includes some of your new faves like Ice Spice, Coco Jones, Gracie Abrams, Noah Kahan, Victoria Monet, Fred again, The War and Treaty, and Jelly Roll.
