On April 22, 2025, the first day of school after Spring Break, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) notified people that there were eight weeks of school left and released a music video based on the song “The Distance” by the band CAKE to the public to motivate students to keep on working hard.
Obviously, a lot of people are relieved that the end of the year is near. Sophomore Joelle Hlover stated that she just feels happy about the school year ending because she wouldn’t have to worry about any more school work, as she doesn’t like it. Although there are some sad feelings as a result of the school year coming to a close, most people feel happy, which is the case for senior Matthew Kintu because he has been busy dealing with college applications and trying to get good grades, so once the school year ends, he gets to relax.
Also, if you weren’t already aware, the end of the school year has been delayed as there have been additional days added to the school year. The original last day of school was Friday, June 13, but due to numerous school closures because of winter weather events, the last day of school is now Tuesday, June 17. This is because the state of Maryland requires school districts to have at least completed 180 days of school, and a waiver from MCPS to ignore this was denied.
Anyways, no matter how you feel about the school year ending, we all have to accept that the time is almost there.
