Battle of the Consoles PlayStation Vs. Xbox

Gamers Weigh in on Which is Better

PlayStation versus Xbox. The biggest rivalry in the gaming world has been around ever since gaming became a trend.

Gamers everywhere always argue about which console is better, and many factors come in to play, such as console-exclusive games.

In terms of total sales, PlayStation has surpassed Xbox by a long shot. As of now, the PlayStation 2 is the best-selling home console ever, selling 155 million total units worldwide. The original Xbox, which released a few years later, sold only 77.2 million before it was discontinued in 2006.

With the recent release of the “Next Gen” consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, a similar trend is occurring, just not on the same scale as the older generations. According to CNN, in 2013 PS4 sold a total of 4.2 million units, while Xbox One sold only about 3 million units. In terms of console sales, that kind of difference is massive. Considering the fact that many analysts predicted that Xbox would sell better, the difference is remarkable.

Forbes’s Paul Tassi believes that the reason the sales are so different is mainly because of the territory sales, which are made up of several different countries. PS4 released in 48 territories, while Xbox One sold in only 13 territories. He also believes that a big factor for many people is the price of the two consoles. PS4 is $399, while the Xbox One is $499.

Another big part of why PlayStation has outdone Xbox is that PlayStation focused more on gaming, while Xbox focused more on communications and other entertainment.

This means that Sony focused on game quality, availability and functionality. It also includes graphics and flexibility. When it comes down to it, people buy gaming systems for the actual game aspect of the system and PlayStation satisfied that need.

When it comes to preferences between the two consoles, people tend to get defensive of their system, including sophomore Kenneth Somervell, who said, “PlayStation is better and it always will be.”

On the contrary, Xbox fans like sophomore Avinaash Gulati say “Xbox is clearly the superior system because of its awesome graphics.” People have their preferences; however, the PS4 is looking a whole lot better than the Xbox One. This is because PS4 excels in the things that gamers look for, like gaming quality and speed. In several console tests, the PS4 crushed the Xbox in speed and overall functionality. The final factor that gives the PS4 the edge over Xbox One is the stability of the system. The Xbox One release was plagued with a multitude of glitches like freezing games; however, the PS4 which had minimal glitches.

People like what they like but, looking at the facts, PS4 has definitely beaten the Xbox One on several key points, making it a superior system.
