Self Love: Ways to Deal with Stress, Anxiety, & Depression
April 12, 2018
As the school year is coming to a close, I’m sure a majority of students can agree it’s a stressful time in all of our lives. But how we deal with that stress can be as simple and inexpensive as a walk in the park or as complex and expensive as a lush bath bomb, a relaxing face mask, and a chill strawberry rhubarb tea. Neither method is the correct version; what’s best is what works for you.
Disclaimer: I am in not doctor and if stress is truly an issue for you I encourage you to seek professional help. So, with that aside, let’s get into some suggestions to remedy some of that anxiety and stress you may be feeling.
Tip #1: Attempt to find a project or activity to keep busy. For me, finding something I love that will keep me busy is highly important. This could be journaling, working on a video, or hanging out with my boyfriend.
Tip #2: Find a relaxing bath bomb, face mask, and tea/beverage that you really enjoy. This is actually a new ritual that I started doing every Friday starting this year. A bath bomb I’ve been enjoying is Lush’s Rocket Science bath bomb. David’s tea provides scrumptious tea flavors and even offers free cups of tea if it’s your birthday or you are a new member. I actually use to hate tea, but I found how surprisingly cleansing it can make me feel. It’s almost as if it’s cleaning your soul. My current favorite flavor is the Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait tea with milk kept chill. This tea tastes like dessert – it’s phenomenal. For face mask I use B9s Milk Bomb Face Mask which you can find in the beauty section at Kohl’s. First off it smells glorious and leaves your face feeling baby bottom smooth. In addition to that it’s chilling and definitely refreshing.
Tip #3: Watch some good YouTube or TV. I recently got Hulu so I’ve been binge watching shows left and right. I’m currently obsessed with “The Good Doctor.” If you haven’t heard of it, the show’s about a young 25-year-old surgical resident at San Bonovential Hospital who has autism and Savant syndrome. Without spoiling the show, I can tell you that it airs Mondays at 10 pm and is on Hulu the following day. If you have the money to invest in a TV service and you enjoy watching TV shows then Hulu’s for you. If you enjoy movies then check out Netflix. Some YouTubers I’d like to recommend watching is Pixielocks, Kelly Eden, Noodlerella, Beckii Cruel, Behindthebunzie, Lovely Lor, and Synthpop Circus. They are all cute Japanese Street Fashionistas who are motivational and inspiring young women. My favorite is Pixielocks who’s recently been named as the International Kawaii Leader by NHK.
