Seniors Unite in September

How can you get a group of seniors to unite?  Gather them together for an exciting day at Smokey Glen Park.

Arriving at Senior Unity Day was bittersweet for some seniors as they felt it seemed like only yesterday that they were juniors, or sophomores, or even young freshmen.  However, as college applications, SAT tests and college recommendations weighed on their minds at the start of the year, the seniors needed something to take their minds off the important tasks that lay ahead.  Senior Unity Day was just the thing.

Lara Conceicao described the day as “eventful.”  He also noted how he liked “how people, who normally don’t converse, started to unite.”

An announcement called the seniors to gather in the gym for the senior photo and that is when the fun began. Seniors proceeded to the gym where they received Senior Unity Day T-shirts, which mirrored – in a way – how counselors would distribute diplomas at graduation.

From there the day got more exciting as the senior class photo brought the group fully together.  Everyone was amped up, feeling truly unified in their matching Class of 2014 T-shirts while sitting with friends and smiling for the first two pictures before having a chance to take a “silly-face” picture.

After the photo, everyone loaded onto the buses and headed to Smokey Glen Farm.  As the group arrived, everyone took a seat at the wooden tables to hear Class President Candace Marshall address the group.

From then on, the day was truly all about seniors having fun with their friends and classmates.  The class officers announced the winning raffle tickets as everyone looked anxiously at their tickets, hoping to get called. After the raffle and the announcements, the seniors made their way around the park, some breaking into groups and exploring the park. A crowd even gathered around the volleyball area where many students faced off against one another.

Karina Mogrovejo enjoyed the day and felt that “Everybody had a lot of fun with the volleyball games. We all interacted with each other. It was amazing to get out of school.”

“It was FANTASTIC!!” shouted Kayvan  Ghassempour in a brassy voice.

After the fun activities, seniors sat down to a lunch of chicken, chips, potato salad, and drinks.  Of course, dessert was also available, and the brownies were a big hit.

Senior year was the year to make memories and to make the class bond stronger. September 12th was full of fun experiences for the Class of 2014 and it was a great way to start senior year, a year that seniors hoped would lead to even greater and better things.
