Boys’ Soccer Drops Tough Match to Blair
The varsity boys’ soccer team put up a strong fight on October 7th in a tough 3-1 loss to the Blair Blazers.The first half was back-and-forth, but the Blazers managed to stake themselves to a solid 2-0 lead at the half. However, the Panthers came back with a vengeance during the second half with a goal by junior Zach Thomas to cut the defecit to 2-1. The Panthers continued to keep the pressure on with strong pushes from senior captain Xavier Mathews and sophomore John Dematatis. Unfortunately, the Panthers could not crack the Blazer defense for the tying goal.
The Blazers added a late goal to finish the scoring and finish off the Panthers, 3-1. Senior goalkeeper Austin Banfield stated, “The team couldn’t really get it going until the second half, when it was a little too late. It was a tough loss but we will work hard at practice this week and get ready to take on Blake next Tuesday.” The Panthers’ record stands at 5-4-2 heading into their clash against the rival Bengals on Tuesday, October 15th.
