Saving Lives – NHS Blood Drive

Have you ever saved a life? Well, a significant number of PB students saved lives this year by volunteering to donate blood at the blood drive on Thursday, November 7th. The event, held in the wrestling room, was hosted by INOVA and Ms. Kimmel and NHS helped run and promote the blood drive.

This was Ms. Kimmel’s third blood drive and she has learned how much goes into planning it. “There are a lot of different pieces put into it like advertising it,” says Ms. Kimmel. “Most of it is logistics.”

There were many challenges to running this blood drive reported Ms. Kimmel. “I would say a lot of multitasking, making sure the passes got sent out and getting the word out. It’s really fun.”

One of the students, who donated, Jada Jones, felt good about her participation. Another student, Jazmyn Gant, also felt good about donating but admitted to feeling “nervous and cold” after giving two pints.

Due to all of the effort of the NHS and the students and staff who donated, the blood drive this year was a success as 209 students signed up and 179 pints of blood were gathered.
