What is something you would want to be remembered for? For your awesome style? Will it be your amazing cooking? Some people dream of being remembered for their accomplishments, but for Paint Branch junior, Joelle Hlover, it’s all about who she is on the inside.
When asked what she would like to be remembered for, Joelle doesn’t hesitate stating “as a kind and joyful person.” This says a lot about her, both inside and out, as she is a person who values her happiness and positivity.
Food plays a role in showing her personality as well. On pizza, she would always go for bacon, her go-to topping. However, when asked to imagine being stuck on an island for the rest of her life and only being allowed one food, pizza takes a back seat to strawberries. They are her favorite because of the sensational sweetness and bitterness of the fruit. Her dislikes are clear as well. You will never see her wearing yellow, as she isn’t a big fan of the color because it doesn’t do her outfits justice. In fact, she doesn’t own any significant yellow pieces in her closet. Joelle explains, “Yellow has nothing interesting to it, and it’s hard to find something to pair it with”.
Outside of food and favorites, Joelle also has interests in activities. As of right now, she’s in PB’s band, and she has her mind set on trying out for track. She doesn’t believe she has the stamina, but you never know until you try. Sports are something she wants to take on as a new challenge. When it comes to getting ready for something big, whether it’s a presentation, performance, or game, she doesn’t stick to one specific artist. However, Joelle prefers to listen to jazz music, which makes her feel at ease and confident. One of the songs she has on repeat would be “Being Human” by Emily King.
Friendships are also very important to her. When asked whether she would have 50 good friends or one best friend, she picked a best friend without a doubt. To her, 50 friends would be too overwhelming, and having one true friend means more to her than being surrounded by a big group of friends. This shows her character and how she values the tight-knit friendships and connections she has.
As for what animal best represents her, Joelle chose a bird. Birds remind her of freedom and adventure, and she thinks flying is one of their coolest features. Just like a bird, she wants to live life without being held back, and she can be free to follow her own path.
From her love of strawberries to her loyalty to one best friend, Joelle is someone who mixes her heart with her passion. She knows who she is and what she values most. Kindness, joy, freedom. With those traits, she is already leaving the kind of impression she wants to be remembered for.
