Amina Jalloh, Staff writer

As high school students, we all know how overwhelming the school year can be. There are so many things you need to keep up with, from assignment deadlines to finding recommendations. Paint Branch senior Amina Jalloh is determined to stay on top of her work and not procrastinate.

As this is Amina’s last year at P.B., she hopes to make it worthwhile. She’s most excited about going to prom and plans on wearing a dress that ties into her Sierra-Leonean culture. Her culture plays a huge role in her identity and she cherishes it dearly. She hopes to stay “in touch” with her culture and wants to continue to find different ways to embrace it.

School comes with its challenges and can be stressful for students, and Amina is no different. When it all starts to get a little too much, she likes to decompress by listening to music or watching her favorite TV show “Supergirl,” a show that helps her “relax and clear her head.”

In terms of role models, Amina looks up to actor Melissa Benoist. She admires how “happy and cheerful” she is, considering all that she has been through. Amina hopes that she can be “as brave” as Melissa is in her life, and also hopes that one day she’ll have an opportunity to meet her and maybe even interview her!

During her free time, Amina enjoys reading romance novels. When reading, she's able to imagine the characters however she likes. She says, “Reading takes me into a different world,” and that she loves the way starting a new book makes her feel.

When it comes to the future, Amina hopes to attend the University of Maryland and aspires to be a journalist or a news anchor. When asked why, she says, “I love the fact that I can be on TV.” She loves that as a journalist you’re able to talk with different people and “get to know about what is going on around the world.” Her career choice is the main reason why she decided to take journalism this year. You’ll probably even catch her on the morning announcements.
