It’s Bangerz!

Miley Cyrus Leaves Fans Screaming for More at Verizon Center

April 10, 2014 was the day a million girls’ dreams came true. Okay, maybe not a million but at least a thousand. For this was the day of the Miley Cyrus concert at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC.

Cyrus rose to fame as a star on the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana. She drew instant popularity as she sang pop songs as the title character, Hannah Montana. Cyrus began to pursue her own musical career, and she came out with her first official album, Breakout, in 2008. Throughout the years, she released three more: The Time of Our Lives in 2009, Can’t Be Tamed in 2010, and her latest album, one that caused the pop scene to talk, Bangerz in 2013.

In 2012, she cut her hair, dyed it blonde, and started dressing skimpily to create a new image of 19 and free. Now 21, she is currently on her Bangerz tour across the United States, Asia, and Europe. Her tour includes the opening acts of Icona Pop and Sky Ferreira.

With great anticipation, the fans at Verizon Center, mostly girls wearing shirts with Miley’s face on it, her infamous teddy bear body suit, and her crazy pigtails to show their true devotion to the artist, hummed with anticipation.

At exactly 7PM, the DJ started blasting music, and opening act Icona Pop came on stage. They performed songs from their new album, including “Girlfriend,” “We Got the World,” and their most famous hit single, “I Love it.” They hyped the crowd as my friends and I began jumping up and down and screaming for the excitement of who would come next, Miley Cyrus.

Suddenly, a giant face of Cyrus came on the screen, and her tongue turned into a slide. Then she came down the slide, and the crowd started screaming their heads off as she began to sing “SMS(Bangerz).” Her backup dancers were dressed in crazy, colorful bear costumes with a jumbo screen full of cartoon bears running around to add to the excitement.

Following this opening, she came out on top of a gold car and began to sing “Love, Money, Party.” Then the music stopped as she thanked everyone for coming to her show, and then she said some raunchy things.

Throughout the concert, she sang multiple hits from her most-recent album such as “Adore you,” and “4×4,” as well as some of her older songs, such as “Can’t be Tamed.” Miley got deep into her acoustic set as she sang a family friend, Dolly Parton’s song “Jolene.”

Miley tricked the crowd as multiple times she acted as if her concert was officially over, before coming back on stage for, not one, but two encores. She sang “Party in the USA,” and confetti flew everywhere as Miley slowly went down into the stage and said a final goodbye.

The excitement did not stop after that, as the streets were crowded with satisfied fans singing her songs. Miley Cyrus has truly changed the pop scene, and she went above and beyond as an artist to bring a very entertaining show.
