Lady Panthers Earn Their First Victory of the Season Over Titans

The Paint Branch Girls’ Varsity Soccer home game Wednesday night against the Einstein Titans was an intense and dramatic game, which ended up with the Panthers winning, 1-0.  Paint Branch freshman Amanda Banfield scored the only goal in the game.

During the first half, the Panthers started off slow, and the Titans held most of the ball possession.  Juniors Caitlin McBride and Grace Padgett, along with freshman Alayna McFadden, played strong defense to prevent the Titans from getting many shots on goal.

The Panthers built on their strong defense and picked up the pace during the second half of the game, dominating the field with multiple goal attempts within the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Within the last 4 minutes of the game, Banfield headed in the only goal in a scramble in front of the goal from the well-set-up corner kick by her senior teammate Cristina Reyes.

The Panthers now have an even record on the season with one win and one loss.  The Panthers hope to improve their overall game for the season ahead.  McBride, a strong defender in the game, agreed that “As a team we worked well together, but winning 50/50 balls and communicating more will be something we must constantly work on.”

The Panthers have the whole season ahead of them in order to improve and will have their first chance to show improvement at their next game on September 15th against Clarksburg.
