John Wall’s All-Star Stardom Performance
February 24, 2015
As we approach the all-star break let’s take a look at John Wall’s mid-season performance.
The first aspect of John Wall’s game we must examine is shooting. During the 2013 -2014 season, Wall shot .458 from mid-range. This year he is shooting .495 from mid-range, a .037 difference. This might seem like a small difference, but when you’re taking an average of 11.6 mid-range shots per game, it makes a big difference.
The next stop is assists – one of the true measures of a point guard. This year John Wall is averaging 10.2 assists per game compared to last year when he averaged 8.8. Let’s not give all the credit to John Wall, though; his teammates are playing better than last year, so that definitely helps.
Bradley Beal, a sharpshooter whom the Wizards drafted 3rd overall in the 2012 draft, is having an excellent year shooting the ball. Even after starting off the season injured, Beal has exploded onto the scene, shooting .436 from the 3-point line compared to last year when he shot .402 from the arc. Off season acquisitions such as “The Truth,” aka Paul Pierce, and Rasual Butler are playing well alongside John Wall. Pierce is shooting .500 from mid-range, which is something that the Wizards – and John Wall – didn’t have the last year because Trevor Ariza, who now plays for the Houston Rockets, was a terrible mid-range shooter. Butler is having an outstanding year from the 3-point line and is the 6th best 3-point shooter in the NBA shooting .439 from the 3-pointline.
These are just a few reasons why John Wall is starting in this year’s all-star game, which kicks off this weekend.
