On Thursday, April 26, PB held International Night, an evening that included traditional foods, cultural dance and musical performances, and a fashion show to wrap up the event. The night was organized by PB’s SGA and included several groups that represented the amazing variety of cultures and talents that exist at PB. Throughout the evening, PB students shined in their traditional attire and allowed those who attended to witness the diversity that makes our school so special.
International Night started off with fifty minutes of food and table displays in front of the auditorium. There were several tables filled with different cuisines to get those who attended excited for the night. Some of the foods on the menu included Haitian mac & cheese, fried plantains, jerk chicken, suya, pupusas, and much more.
The performances began shortly after the food and table displays closed. Panteras Bailadoras started the show with a dance routine. They were followed by additional dance routines by the Caribbean Student Union, Black Student Union, and Ethiopian Eritrean Student Association. The final performance was by The Vision, a multi-piece band that played instrumental pieces.
As the groups performed their impressive routines, the crowd shouted and cheered all throughout the night, whether it was students, parents, or teachers. The performers’ high energy and passion in their routines spread to the audience as everyone found themselves singing along to the music and cheering endlessly.
EESA member Yoni Haile shared that her favorite part about international night was “seeing people become more comfortable and proud of their culture.” Events like this bring a sense of unity and allow people to appreciate their culture more, especially when seeing many others who also share it. A model from the fashion show, Lydia Timbo, who was representing West Africa, mentioned that her favorite part was “showing my culture as well as seeing everyone else’s cultural outfits.” She added, “They were all so unique and different, which made it so great to watch.”
Spending time preparing a routine and fashion show is no easy task, but the students involved did an amazing job planning it and putting on a show for the school. Embracing culture is beautiful and PB’s International Night did a great job showing just that.

Sumer Elsalawi, Features & Opinions Editor
Hi there!! My name is Sumer and I am a 12th grader here at Paint Branch High School. This is my second year taking journalism, and my first year as an editor working on the print issues for the school newspaper. Since I started journalism, I always found myself fascinated by past print issues, and I am more than excited to work with others and create some for this school year!
In my free time, I enjoy staying home and relaxing, but I also love spending time with my friends and family, which is something I always try to make time for. Whenever I catch myself feeling too busy or overwhelmed, I take a step back and remind myself to have fun. This is vital because even amidst stressful seasons, there are always endless memories to gain.
Growing up, I have always had a passion for writing as it is a great form of self-expression and entertainment, and it's the reason why I decided to take journalism my junior year. Writing in this class has allowed me to take my mind off of my workload, and gave me the opportunity to invest my time in something both productive and fun. I am glad to be back this year and to write again for the Paint Branch newspaper one last time :)
