Sumer Elsalawi, Staff Writer
When you think of the term student-athlete, what do you picture? Is it a football player who gets good grades? Maybe a field hockey player who studies all of the time?
Paint Branch junior Sumer Elsalawi is who you should picture as she fits the term student-athlete perfectly. A member of the Paint Branch Varsity Cheer team, Sumer aspires to be a clinical psychiatrist and make her family proud. She likes school and is really good at English, which she says is probably why it’s her favorite subject.
Outside of school, Sumer enjoys traveling to her parent's home country of Sudan every couple of years. Her last trip there was memorable as she recalls, “The highlight of my summer was traveling to Khartoum, which is where my mom’s family is from.” Sumer truly enjoys her culture, saying that being from Sudan is an interesting part of her background.
While Sumer’s favorite brand is Nike she says, “I also really like Crocs, especially colorful bright ones.” This choice makes sense when you consider that her two favorite seasons are fall, “because of the colorful leaves,” and her namesake, summer.
