Back of the Line, Bub

Nowshin Ahmed, Staff Writer

So you’re in fourth period and, as much as you want to, you can’t seem to pay attention. The clamor that your stomach creates sounds like an army of soldiers demanding their food, and  the only thing that’s keeping you from giving in is the bell for LAP. Finally, the bell rings, your stomach gives one last grumble, and you rush to the cafeteria, but your excitement leaves you as soon as you walk into the cafeteria and notice that the lines are unbelievable!

The problem is not the length of the lines; the problem is how people think it’s “okay” to cut in front of ten hungry kids! The real deal is cutting. Period. The lines must be monitored well. Staff members help monitor the lines from cutters, but half of the time people find a way to cut. This is just not fair for the people who have been waiting patiently in line because it forces them to wait even longer because of the obnoxious people who can’t seem to wait. Enough is enough.

In order to stop getting angry every single day,  I decided a year ago to stop eating school lunch.  I wasn’t going to let a bunch of rude kids ruin my day just because they cut  in line. Don’t blame the staff members, because so many kids eat a school lunch, so it’s hard to keep an eye on at least 30 kids in each line.

New line ethics need to be in place. For instance, the staff members should enforce straight lines strictly. Disorganized lines are the primary reason why students can cut through the line. LAP?! It’s crazy. Obviously, students can cut through the lines!

Some ways to prevent cutters from disrupting the lines can be having more than one staff member at each line. Usually, staff members and security are present in front of the lines, but instead of having one staff member monitoring the line, two can make a difference. Cutters get away with it by pulling out the barrier and putting it back in. I feel like staff members should really keep an eye on the barrier. At the moment, we’re in four lines that are not well- organized.

We have so many  angry students in the school that not doing anything about the lunch lines will create more angry kids. Let’s do everyone a favor by increasing the focus on monitoring the lines and enforcing the rules more strictly so lunch can be simply enjoyable
