Since the first case of Ebola back in December 2013, there have been about 13,042 cases and 4,818 deaths. This epidemic has taken the world by storm and has instilled fear into many people. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) says that the numbers may not be completely accurate.

According to the WHO, the figures include all probable and suspected cases along with the confirmed cases. The numbers have also dropped slightly recently since more data is available and, thus, the numbers fluctuate. Deaths and cases of Ebola are usually recorded days after the patients have become symptomatic or died. This makes it hard to get a real understanding of the status of the Ebola crisis.

The WHO also reports that the vast majority of patients are in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. However, a total of eight countries have reported cases of Ebola, including Spain and the U.S. The WHO reports that 546 health care workers have contracted the virus, of which 310 have died. The UN is hoping to stop the outbreak in 2015.
