“The Interview” – Is it a Really Such a Big Deal?

If you have been on YouTube you have probably seen the movie The Interview. This movie has repeatedly gotten companies hacked and North Korea infuriated.

The movie depicts North Korea and their leader, Kim Jong-un, as the negative force in the world and one that causes an uproar. Kim Jong-un in this comedy is seen as a fan of a show in the film and calls the main characters over to interview him. He is seen as a manipulator, and as he manipulated them he is also seen to be a Katy Perry fan and lies about how Korea has an abundance of food but later reveals that Korea has no food for its people which triggers the main character to realize that he is being manipulated. The response from Kim Jong-un was a threat to plan 9/11 style attacks on movie theatres that showed the film. North Korea is also being blamed for hacking Sony, in response to the movie’s distribution.

After watching the film I can see and understand the North Korean response. It shows Kim Jong-un as a leader who hides his country’s flaws from the rest of the world. The film portrays him as a terrible leader who has no love for his people and only cares for his reputation among the Korean people. In the end, Kim Jong-un is killed by the main characters when they meet each other and could be why Kim Jong-un felt disrespected. After he is killed in the movie, and due to his death, the people around him have hope for a better future.

I think the movie was wrong, but it shouldn’t be taken too seriously by Kim Jong-un and the people of North Korea.
