The Ten Highest-Paying Majors

Steve Kamga Fosso, Staff Writer

In the United States of America, some college majors pay well and other majors do not.  While going to college and earning a degree means a significant payday in comparison to those who do not earn a college degree, all degrees are not created equal.

According to Forbes, the best areas for earning a degree and making significant money immediately upon graduation are in fields like petroleum engineering, computer engineering, chemical engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering technology, management information system, and logistics management. These majors pay you back. In other words, after your four years of hard-work, these majors reward you financially.

However, Forbes also discusses those majors that pay the least upon graduation. The worst areas for making money after college are in fields like humanities, social sciences, criminal justice, sociology, social work, and visual and performing arts.

Higher-paying jobs require more effort and hours of work. Students who choose careers like petroleum engineering will have to work more than 40 hours a week and must also travel to drill oil. On the other hand, students who choose careers like humanities only works during regular business hours and stay closer to home. Money might be the positive side of being a petroleum engineer, but they do not have any social lives.
