PB Girls Basketball Begins Season Prep

Last year the Paint Branch girls’ basketball team lost to Eleanor Roosevelt 70-40 at the SECC Arena, on March 14th. This year the Paint Branch girls’ basketball team will leave behind three of their star players from last year, Dasia Harris, Tyra Sinclair, and Kaylyn French. Both returning and new players will be in the weight room for a 10 week program hoping to get another shot at states.

Head varsity coach, Rochelle Coleman and Myron Flowers are leading a ten week fitness program at the Paint Branch High School. The program is to help the student-athletes prepare for tryouts and the upcoming season. Workouts are every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:40-4:00pm. Each student athlete is required to pay $100 to participate.

On Tuesday, workouts were held on track. The girls first started off their daily warm ups, which included running two laps and stretches. Trainer, Myron Flowers instructed the girls where to begin their workout and what needed to be done. Some girls frowned after hearing the workout and the others tried to motivate each other to finish strong.  Following a series of sprints and jogs around the track some girls started to fall behind. After receiving motivation from junior guard, Grace Broody, and senior forward, Autumn Ashe the girls started to pick up their pace. Grace Broody states, “Workouts will help me get me in shape for the season and will have a positive impact on my game.” Sofilia Ngwafang also states,” In the beginning they were hard only because most of us weren’t working out as much in the summer or after AAU season. Right now, it’s pretty much easier than what it felt like in the beginning. I think it would be a big help in the season because we won’t have to waste our time trying to get into shape.”  Workouts ended with a fun 4×1 relay to conclude the workout session.
