Senior Goodbye: McKenzie Perrow – Staff Writer

McKenzie Perrow, Staff Writer

It has been quite a journey throughout my four years of high school and an even better one writing for Mainstream. Looking back on my first days of writing during my sophomore year through this brief (one semester) period when I returned for my senior year, I can say it’s been a great experience. Journalism is a class that really taught me discipline. I walked into the class thinking I could sit and write about anything and everything, but Mr. Woodward taught me that there are rules and guidelines to producing a good article. My writing skills have elevated to a level I never thought imaginable. The class helped me develop a love for journalism and ultimately gave me the confidence to major in communication studies with a minor in journalism for college.

The advice I give for those unfortunate souls who still have to serve their time here in high school is to slow down. Yes, it may seem unbearable at times and, yes, it may seem like your last nerve will pop any day but, if you think about it, these are the best days of your youth. You are at a stage of life when you do not yet have to worry about the responsibilities of an adult such as bills, debt, work, or kids. You’re absolutely free of burden. Figuring out your path in life for the next ten years is not necessary. Have fun living in the now while keeping your future in mind. Don’t give up when you are almost done. Trust me: the diploma is worth it.
