The Truth, Uncovered

My grey hair shows my stress; my warm tears reveal the sadness I feel and the pressure I am under. But my mask hides this and shows the world a counterfeit face that I wear.

Often we have that certainty that a person is doing okay. We see their smile and hear their laughter and we think that they are fine, that they are happy. However, all-too-often we fail to recognize what’s happening deep inside. While some people’s actions and behavior come off as sweet and extremely nice, what lurks behind that wall of perceived happiness may be a person who is hurting.

The truth is, some people have many issues built up inside of them and they don’t always seek the help they need, choosing instead to put on a mask that belies the challenges they face.  This is why it is important to be nice to everyone and avoid putting people down. None of us really know what others are feeling or going through outside of what they share with us or are able to portray on the surface. As cliché as this may sound, it is absolutely true. While many people are okay and are truly happy, we should not forget to look deeper and listen for any signs of trouble. We cannot let ourselves assume that people in certain circumstances are happy just because it appears that way. Never refrain from being kind because your kindness can have a huge impact on someone who’s in pain.
