Deon Key, Staff Writer
“I didn’t choose to be in journalism since I came a little late,” says PB junior Deon Key of his arrival to journalism. “They put me in NJROTC… but then they said to me if I wanted to do journalism and I said yeah because articles are cool.”
A football player at heart, Deon joined journalism in the second half of the first quarter of this year and even though he didn’t originally choose to be in journalism he has made the best of the class and his time as a writer. Some of the ways he has contributed to Mainstream are through a podcast and a couple of articles which express his love for sports!
Deon is no stranger to writing though as he has some background in creative writing. Asked what his biggest accomplishment was, Deon says, “In sixth grade I made a poem which is in a book, which I got a trophy and stuff for. That is my biggest accomplishment.” This is, in part, what has made him confident in his work and makes him believe he is fit to be in journalism.
As Deon paves his way through the rest of his junior year and swiftly approaches his senior year, it is a good time to think about what he would want to be remembered for when he leaves and what he wants to do after he leaves. He says, “For being a good person.. and not for my athletics. And I hope to go to college and do college football and then pursue a career in the NFL.”
