What really is a hotdog? Many arguments have formed around this topic. From arguments declaring “‘it’s a sandwich since it’s an item between bread” to an argument saying “it’s like a taco since the bun can be thought of as a tortilla,” the issue remains unsolved.

However, for PB sophomore Abigail Alem, the answer is simple: she thinks it’s a sandwich. In fact, with her outside-the-box reasoning, she states “It’s like a sub.”

All jokes aside, Abigail’s biggest goal in life is to become a pediatrician. Her family has inspired her to pursue a medical career and she says “I enjoy helping people, especially helping out children. It’s something that’s important to me.”

A pet peeve she has is when people are being mean to other people, regardless of whether she knows them or not. She just hates seeing people being hurt. Another pet peeve of hers is when people talk with food in their mouth, but her reasoning isn’t typical. While she finds it gross, like most people, her primary reasoning for this is more important as she says, “I’m afraid of seeing them choke.” Abigail’s caring personality is something about her that really stands out.

In her free time, Abigail enjoys baking banana bread and blueberry muffins. If she could, she would love to go to Europe with friends and visit all types of different bakeries and try out different pastries. Abigail also really enjoys reading, and this love for reading is what motivated her to become a writer for Mainstream

Abigail speaks on how her parents are people that really inspire her. Given the fact that they were immigrants, she appreciates their sacrifice to give her a better life in America. Her family also inspired her to pursue a future in the medical field.

Coming out of a year of zoom calls and due dates, Abigail recalls that “freshman year was the most nerve-racking experience of her life.” After coming out of such a chaotic year just to be thrown into the jungle that is high school, who wouldn’t be a little nervous? Luckily for her, she “was able to adjust after a while.”

With a bright future ahead of her, it makes you wonder where Abigail will be in a couple years. Will she be in a hospital caring for children? Or will life blow her into a completely different direction, maybe becoming a baker or even pursuing journalism? Regardless of where Abigail ends up, she’s sure to succeed in the path she embarks on.
