Samira White, Staff Writer

The Paint Branch Girls Junior Varsity Field Hockey earned their first victory of the 2018 season 3-2, in a hard-fought battle against the visiting Gaithersburg Trojans. The victory improves the Panthers’ record to 1-3.

Gaithersburg began the game by shooting the first two goals. Junior forward Addyson Kiras scored the third goal with defensive help from junior Kylan Davis. This put the Panthers on the scoreboard at 1-2. Freshman goalkeeper Mikayla Downs had a total of two saves to keep the Trojans off the board and keep the Panthers in the lead. Freshman forward, Cindy Umanzor Villant, ended the first half with the second goal for PB.

Paint Branch charged into the second halve with a tie of 2-2. Sophomore team captain Chloe Bush broke the tie and put the game away by scoring just seconds into the second half giving the Panthers the win with 3-2 final score.

A strong defense in the second half was the key to clinching the victory for PB. According to Davis,  “Our strong defense and offense in the second half of the game definitely helped us earn the win.” Be sure to come to the next JV girls field hockey game against the Blake Bengals Sept 25 at Blake.
