FanFiction – More than Meets the Eye

Any fan who calls herself a “Directioner” or a “Belieber” is a serious fan. However, for an artist’s truest fans, nothing is more precious or cherished than a dive into “fanfiction.”  If you are a true fan, you have probably delved into fanfiction as a writer, a reader, or both.  Just imagine reading a love story that features your favorite One Direction guy, or maybe a story about the dangerous, mysterious Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Dairies.

Fanfictions are stories about favorite celebrities. These celebrities include TV show characters and storybook characters. “Fanfictions are interesting and more relatable, and more fun than books.” says freshman Brianna Taylor, who enjoys reading stories about vampires and werewolves that like to kidnap people and force them into marriage.    Fan fictions have become very popular and can be found on many websites. There is a very popular site called Wattpad.  Once you are on Wattpad, a simple click of the tab that says “discover” takes you to genres including science fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and eventually to Fanfiction. Fanfictions are written by teen girls.

There are different types of fanfictions including shipping characters which involves putting two most liked characters together. Creating your own characters is when put together your favorite celebrity, TV show character, or storybook character. Crossovers are putting your favorite TV show or storybook characters together in one story. “I believe they are creative outlets but not as creative as creating your own characters and story plots,” says freshmen Tessa Paulsen, who enjoys writing and reading originals stories. The other types of fan fictions are one- shots, which are short stories with your favorite celebrities or characters, and boyxboy which two boy characters together. They could be your own characters, celebrities, TV show characters, or storybook characters.  Popular fan fictions that people read the most  are about One Direction (mostly about Harry Styles), Justin Bieber, one- shots, boyxboy, shipping characters, creating your own characters, and ones you should stay away from.

If you were a true fan like you say you are, maybe you should consider writing a fan fiction, and maybe you’ll be the lucky fan that gets your fan fiction read by that celebrity you wrote about.
