The Decision II – LeBron James Takes on Free Agency Again

The year was 2010, and LeBron James was in Cleveland, Ohio with a big decision to make. The Decision. LeBron made a more controversial choice in the Miami Heat over his hometown Cavaliers, which lead to major criticism over the next few years. Jump to the year 2014 and LeBron faces the same situation. After winning two championships with the Heat LeBron has a chance to leave his team yet again come this summer. James has the choice to opt out of his contract with the Heat this summer, which could, essentially remake his persona. After leaving his hometown team in the dust, James faced a load of critics, people even burned his jersey. James was the entire Cavs team and when he left, Ohio was in disarray. James has a chance to fix that. With Kyrie Irving and a good lottery pick due to come in this year’s draft the Cavs have a load of space for James and could supply him with what he needs to make a comeback. If James were to go back to Cleveland, he could become the face of the franchise yet again. If James opts out of his contract, he will be a top candidate for every team. The Heat, the weaker team in the East compared to the Indiana Pacers, have to keep LeBron if they wish to stay even close with the Pacers in terms of talent.

If James were to win a title this year with the Heat, how could he leave? Playing with the Heat already earned him two rings and backed his choice to come to the Heat. James is perfect where he is, but with an aging Dwayne Wade and a player in Chris Bosh who could test free agency for more money. As of right now the Heat are over their allowed cap space. In order for them to keep the Big 3, they would have to make major moves with the rest of their squad. When the time comes for LeBron to make a choice, it would not be surprising if he went towards the Los Angeles Clippers. A move to the Clips could benefit both sides; the Clippers could set up a sign and trade situation involving Blake Griffin and James. This deal is very possible as James and Chris Paul who are good friends could set up the whole thing for a run at the west. James and Paul played with each other before, in 2008 and 2012, and James and Paul played for team USA and won 2 gold medals. The Clippers would be dumb not to go after James; being in his prime James could earn the Clippers their first championship. Even though they have a great player in Griffin the possibility of a James/Paul duo is too good to just overlook.

No matter how it plays out, whatever team James decides to go to or stay with will have a big chance to win it all.
