On March 19th, Paint Branch hosted the Montgomery County Forensics League Awards Night, an event that celebrated student performers from across the county. The event marked the end of a season that included three qualifying tournaments where students competed in categories such as slam poetry, dramatic interpretation, humorous interpretation, children’s theater, and reader’s theater.
During the course of the season, performances were judged on delivery skills such as eye contact, pacing, body language, vocal emphasis, and emotional expression. Students were also expected to engage the audience, not just the judges, making connection a key part of scoring. Winners were recognized from first through sixth place in each category, and first-place finishers were invited to perform once again in front of the audience at the awards night if they chose to do so. Ultimately, the evening celebrated not only achievement but also the dedication and creativity students brought to the forensics program.
Two of Paint Branch’s very own, junior Topaz Williams and senior Jenna Reaves, won first place for their dual interpretation for the performance of “Period Poem”, and showcased their skills by performing at the event. The pair earned recognition in another category for poetry and Topaz also placed in second for her serious prose interpretation. In total, four more Paint Branch students placed in various categories, highlighting PB’s overall strength and versatility.
