Electronic music band Savoy amazes crowd with laser light show

Crazy, loud, exciting, and fun are the words to describe my rave experience at the Savoy light-laser-show concert. Savoy is a Colorado trio of DJ’s who travel around the United States and play house music. They bring a unique style of show to a crowd, which includes their use of a live drummer, as well as a laser show, which really brings their concert to life.

Lined up around the building of The Filmore in downtown Silver Spring in twenty-degree weather, girls in short-shorts and neon clothes were certainly a sight to see as fans waited for Savoy’s very own “Get Lazer’d Tour.”

The two DJ’s are Gray Smith and Ben Eberdt, while Mike Kelly plays the drums. This trio brings a unique sound with their rock, pop, punk, techno-based sound.

One of the aspects which makes them different from other bands is their live drummer. Kelly makes the experience seem even more real, and the trio is connected to the crowd instead of just a DJ playing music.

Finally, after about forty-five minutes of waiting in the cold with my thin sweater, I entered and soon the crowd piled in with anxious teenagers waiting for them to come on stage.

At about ten o’clock, they finally arrived with headless mannequins, crazy lights, smoke and, most importantly, their live drummer beginning the show.

As soon as the music started blasting out of the speakers, the lasers set off around the room, and the crowd started dancing, jumping, and acting crazy. Some people were so into it that they were swinging their heads around, bumping into people.

Savoy has four mix-tapes out that are available for download on their website Savoyband.com. The songs they played were from their latest mix-tape, Self-Predator, with songs such as “Queen,” and “I’m in Need,” my personal favorites which really connected the fans to the music.

The dancing went on for another couple of hours. At exactly midnight, the band called it a night, but the fans were not ready to stop as they chanted for Savoy to play a couple more songs.

They gave in to the pressure and played some songs, making all the fans and including myself satisfied as they put on a great live, unique, and crazy performance at one of the final shows on their tour.

Savoy has ended its tour but is planning on playing at a few festivals this summer. Anyone can download their four mix-tapes at savoyband.com and decide for themselves.
