BVFD’s Night of Lights

The Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) had nothing less than a successful opening night for their 24th annual carnival last Saturday. The dark sky and bright moon cascaded the hypnotizing carnival lights onto cars that lined the streets.

As the night grew older, excitement and anticipation surged through the visitors as they waited in the lines of their favorite rides or were lured to the concession stands by the aroma of fresh funnel cake and popcorn. It was a night of positive vibes and endless entertainment. The line to the Ferris wheel was especially long, as carnival goers – three tickets at the ready – waited their turn on the signature carnival ride.

The carnival started on September 13th and went through the 22nd. Even though it’s an event to enjoy and have fun at, its main was to focus is to raise money to benefit the local Burtonsville Fire Department.

“I love the carnival; I come every year,” said Amber Jozani as she stood with friends, enjoying the night.

A mom of four young boys, Mrs. Timesha Anderson-Jacobs said, “My boys and I always support the carnival; it’s for a great cause and they have small enough rides for little Kobe who is three. We always have an amazing time.” The Burtonsville carnival was very versatile as it caters to all ages and had rides suitable for everyone.

“It’s usually very successful and really helps us out around the firehouse, as far as getting supplies and improving the environment of the fire house, because it’s practically our home,” said Geneva Jamsa, Master EMT of BVFD.

As the night got closer to the end, the once-huge crowd slowly began to dwindle. People got on their last rides for that final thrill and bought last-minute funnel cakes, popcorn, and candied apples. Many played games with the hope of winning the biggest stuffed animal or anything to remember the exciting night.
