On Sunday, September 21st, over 300,000 environmental activists, including many celebrities and politicians, marched through the streets of New York calling for action on climate change. An event deemed The Peoples Climate March coursed through midtown and from Columbus circle to Times Square.
The march featured scientists holding large chalkboards explaining climate change, Hurricane Sandy victims wearing life preservers, and much more. Other marchers included many notables such as former Vice President Al Gore, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.
The march was only one of a series of events held worldwide. According to Emma Thompson of The Guardian, an estimated 40,000 people marched in an event that took place in London while in Cairo, there was a small event that featured a 50-foot art piece representing wind and solar energy.
