Since January, technical work for the Paint Branch Perspectives production of the musical “Bye Bye Birdie” has been in full effect. Led by Technical Director Ms. Ryan, the 6-7 person crew, occasionally assisted by members of the cast has been working diligently to build and paint the set for the show.

The show, which opens in March, is set in the 1960’s and is based on Elvis Presley being drafted into the military. As his farewell, Elvis is going to kiss a fan, live on the Ed Sullivan Show. The main character, Conrad Birdie, is meant to represent Elvis.

The technicians are building the set to capture the vibrant style of the 60’s. A wide staircase in the center of two 7-foot platforms will be painted orange, magenta, mint, and turquoise.

According to Ms. Ryan, “The show is set in the late ‘60s, so we’re trying to go for like a ‘60s vibe with the set.” The building process is going along fine, and it should be done and looking beautiful in time for the show.
