Varsity Basketball Heads to Post-Season

Panther Girls Stalking Title

Josh Doane-Malotte, Editor-in-Chief

The Girls’ basketball team has continued to be a county and state powerhouse this season. The team finished the regular season at 21-1, suffering their only loss of the season to undefeated Whitman in a close game. Nineteen of the Panthers’ wins have been double-digit victories, and they have decimated most of their opponents, including several games that they won by doubling their opponent’s score.

The Panthers are a favorite to return to the state Final Four again this year and, with a change in the brackets, the Panthers would not have to play against defending state champion Roosevelt until the finals if both teams make it that far. Whitman and Roosevelt could square off in the state semi-final, leaving the Panthers with a better chance of getting to the final.

Last year, the Lady Panthers fell short against undefeated Roosevelt in the state semi-finals, but the Panthers are not thinking about the past. Sofilia Ngwafang, a 6’4 junior, has stepped up huge this year and become a key player for PB. Roosevelt isn’t struggling this season as their 15-3 record shows, but they aren’t having the same success that they did last year due in large part to the season-ending knee injury of 6’0 forward Tolupe Omokore, a UCF commit. All of this means, don’t be surprised if the Lady Panthers bring back a state title in March.
