While sports put an emphasis on competition, they are also a great way to build unity and have fun. And, what better sport to remind us of that principle than Bocce. This year the team is getting a facelift of sorts, with two new coaches taking over in Coach Lally and Coach Aghguiguian. Also, the team will have quite a number of new faces. However, this team will look to carry over their strong showing from the last two seasons and build on their 4-1 record last year.

This year, the marquee matchup, like always, will be against the Springbrook Blue Devils. Last year’s matchup resulted in a win for the Panthers but, with a rival as strong as the Blue Devils, the matchup will always be tough. Another squad to look forward to is the Blair Blazers, who handed Paint Branch their only regular season loss last year.
However, this team always has higher aspirations than just the regular season. Asked to identify his favorite part about Bocce, senior Adom Antwi was quick to reply: “States,” he said. Adom continued, saying that he loves “seeing all the other schools” from across Maryland and, of course, “winning.” Taking home bronze last year, these Panthers are hungry for gold.

While it is always nice to win, which this team does quite a bit, Bocce will always be about one thing: having fun. If the Panthers can do that this year, no matter what their record is, this season will be a success.
