The year 2016 was a tragic year due to the deaths of many important and iconic figures including  David Bowie, Prince, George Michael, and at the very end of the year Carrie Fisher and her mother, Debbie Reynolds.

Sadly, on December 27, 2016, Fisher  passed away at the age of 60 due to a massive heart attack, which she suffered just days earlier on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

According to her family spokesman,  Simon Halls, she went into cardiac arrest on December 23rd and died just 4 days later. She passed away in the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Tragically, just one day after her death, her mother, actress Debbie Reynolds, passed away at the age of 84 after suffering a stroke.

Carrie Fisher was born on October 21, 1956 to Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher in Beverly Hills, California. Fisher was best known for her recurring role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars movie series.

Reynolds is best known for her roles in the musical Singin’ in the Rain and many other musicals, such as Tammy and the Bachelor and The Unsinkable Molly Brown.

Todd Fisher, Carrie’s brother, Debbie’s son, and Billie Lourd, Carrie’s daughter, had a joint funeral for the two where they were buried beside each other at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills. Fisher was cremated while Reynolds was buried beside some of her ashes. Family and friends of the two attended their private memorial service which took place on January 5th, 2017.
