Kids and Sports: All Kids Should be Required to Play

Sports may not be every kid’s cup of tea, it may not even be yours, but every kid should play a sport.

In this generation kids are more drawn to iPhones, TV, and video games than they are to playing sports. They are bigger fans of staying home and watching a new episode of their favorite show than they are of going out and playing a sport. Sports, however, do a great deal of good.

Sports promote better health, fight obesity, support healthy muscle growth, build a healthy heart, and increase energy overall. Not only do sports support health, but they also encourage a healthy social life.

Human interaction is a must. No one should go through life alone without a friend, and sports helps one to achieve this sense of connection. With sports you have a whole team, a whole group of people encouraging you. On a team, you develop friendships, and the positive reinforcement and encouragement from these friendships promote social involvement and a healthy mentality overall.

Many parents worry about sports because they view some as dangerous, but with the new technology we have today, sports are becoming safer. There are precautions put in place for games and practices, and people on the field who are trained to handle injuries that happen. Additionally, medicine is improving, so if a kid does get hurt, they will receive well-developed treatment.

Playing a sport is one of the best moves a young person can make for his/her health, physical and mental. Having kids play sports will benefit them not only as children, but later in their life as well. The best part is that there is a sport for everyone and a way for every child to be involved in a sport.
