Government Shutdown Continues to Dismay Nation

On October 13th, hundreds of veterans and their supporters protested in Washington, D.C. at national memorials, including the World War II Memorial, to protest the government shutdown.

Since the government shutdown began, national memorials have been closed, and, according to the protest group’s website, it was time to declare that this group would no longer stand for dishonor.

Some protestors gathered in front of the White House. In order to monitor protestors, police officers had to stand in riot gear in front of the White House, while an armored police vehicle remained parked in front of the WW II Memorial.

Among the protestors on the National Mall were former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and current Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

Although it didn’t get as much attention, there was also a truck protest on the Capital Beltway which did cause some traffic problems in the D.C. area. CBS News reported that no arrests related to the protests were made.
