When you think of a Christmas movie, what comes to mind? Is it warm and cozy family animation about the Christmas spirit, or does it involve a devilish eight year old bound to protect his home on the holidays?

If your idea of a great movie is heartfelt animation, The Polar Express is the perfect holiday movie for you. In fact, it is a great family movie for any time of the year. While the story line is not very realistic, that is all made up for with the sincerity of the message.

On the other side of the spectrum is an adventure holiday movie for you or anyone who is into thrillers: Home Alone. The plot really keeps you on the edge of your seat. Every twist and turn keeps you engaged and curious for more. Though a bit of excitement is important in any movie, it seems to be a bit too much when an 8 year old is left home alone to deal with robbers. Of course, Home Alone did a good job of having their actors appear hurt whenever an obstacle would come their way and Kevin (Macaulay Caulkin), is excellent, but it all seems a bit much. Though it is a bit cheesy it is still fine to watch.

The Polar Express, on the other hand, had my eyes glued to the screen because of the voicing from the animated characters, specifically Tom Hanks who voices the conductor. His voice and the story were both engaging and interesting so I couldn’t look away.  Both stories do a great job of being timeless, but, ultimately, holiday movies should be relaxing and warm. So next holiday season be sure to pick up a Polar Express DVD along with a cup of cocoa and some family to keep you company!
