Amina Sankoh, Staff Writer

Paint Branch freshman Amina Sankoh likes living in Montgomery County. She says “I like how peaceful it is.  In Maryland, not a lot of things happen here and I feel like most of the attention goes to Washington, DC, where the White House is. And Maryland is really calm.”

She seems similarly calm and collected, perhaps following advice her father gave her. She recalls that he told her, “If someone is talking, you should sit down and listen.” She applies that mindset to her everyday life as well as in school. Her willingness to listen will serve her well in the two career paths she currently has in mind, working in the medical field or being a journalist. She’s already an author, noting that a poem she wrote in 6th grade was published in a poetry collection.

When asked who she would pick to spend time with if she could pick any person, dead or alive, Amina chooses her grandparents. She says she never got to meet them and would like to see what they were like. The trait that she says is most important to her in a person is loyalty, and that she believes that respect must be earned.

Just as she finds Maryland to be peaceful, music too brings her solace and happiness. Some of her favorites include Chase Atlantic, The Neighbourhood, and Giveon. Her favorite things are by no means limited to music. She enjoys all ice creams except butter pecan because she can’t fathom why someone would put nuts in ice cream. She also is an avid watcher of many TV shows and movies and is (at the time of publication) watching four different shows at the same time. She says her current favorite is Naruto, and she just finished Mr. Hiragi’s Homeroom.
