Let the Good Times Roll

This past weekend was the last chance for community members of Burtonsville to enjoy the local fair hosted by the Burtonsville Fire Department.

The carnival’s festivities started on September 12th and ran for ten days straight opening each day at 6:30 pm and ending at 10 pm weekdays and 11 pm on weekends. Although gates opened at 6:30, the crowd of attendees did not start getting heavy until 7:30. Families with young children came closer to opening time to get the most out of the day’s fun-filled activities.

“It’s very small,” said Michelle Espinoza, a Paint Branch sophomore, “but I like it because I feel very close to the crowd of people.”

Tickets sales for rides and activities went for $1 per individual ticket and deals such as $35 for 40 tickets. The line for the ticket booth reached halfway through the fairgrounds by sunset.

Food specialties included deep fried selections such as corn dogs, fried Oreos, onion rings, funnel cake and much more. With prices up to $8 each, food was not an inexpensive option. For more traditional items, people could chose from hamburgers for $3, cheeseburger’s for $4, hot dogs for $2, french fries for $3, and a drink at just $1.

The rides available at the fair included swings, bumper cars, a Cliff Hanger, a Ferris wheel, and multiple kiddy rides for people under 5ft. Games included pinball, water gun contests, balloon poppers, and basketball. Kaila Wallace, an attendee from outside the Burtonsville area, said, “The rides look really fun for little children, but there’s only one that could possibly entertain teenagers.”
