On the evening of May 14th, Paint Branch’s Music Department, under the direction of Ms. Mitchell and Mr. Kirchhoff, displayed part one of its annual Spring Concert, featuring the Madrigals, Concert Chorus, Men’s Ensemble, Women’s Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Jazz Singers.

The Madrigals opened the show with a fun blast to the past in medieval costumes and 17th century songs. The epic Concert Chorus touched various time periods, cultures, and religions as Pierre Mballa, Jide Adetunji, and Irvin Pamah performed excellent solos, with Manuel Sackey as an outstanding accompanist on the piano. With the traditional song, “Time for Moving On,” the Concert Chorus bid a touching farewell to the seniors. The Men’s Ensemble portrayed deep emotion in the bittersweet “Find the Cost of Freedom.” The Women’s Ensemble followed with a lovely medley from Sister Act, with great solos from Victoria Kral and Gloria Okeke. The musically gifted Jazz Band concluded as grand as ever with a crescendo of drums and vibrancy coupled with live interaction with the audience and numerous unique solos. The Jazz Singers were vibrant as always and concluded with the classic and lively “Footloose.”

The Spring Concert’s resonating musical styles all blended into a beautiful and lively symphonic medley that had the audience tapping their feet and nodding their heads, with the occasional shout or cheer throughout the entire concert.

Due to the pre-scheduled printing date for Mainstream, we were unable to cover the 2nd part of the Spring Concert on May 18th in this edition.
