Senior Goodbye: Serena Kok Sey Tjong – Staff Writer

Writing, in its many forms, has always interested me immensely. In addition to the litany of other subjects I wish to pursue in my life, it’s been one of my main hobbies since I was a child. That is why I decided to take journalism this year.

After taking the course this whole year, all I can say is that I wish I had taken it sooner. I thoroughly enjoyed taking this class because it was sort of a break from the more stressful parts of my life; a different world I could escape to when I needed a break from prerequisites and obligations and actually do something I enjoyed.

Having my opinions and other articles displayed in such a public forum as the newspaper was at first terrifying, to say the least, but over time I came to appreciate that sort of recognition. It also taught me to appreciate the newspaper for what it actually is: a collaboration of different people freely expressing themselves creatively. In the future, I’ll definitely be more involved in taking journalism and writing classes and finding my own style of writing. Maybe I’ll even write a book.
