The MLB season is in full swing, and there have been surprises and disappointments already. The biggest surprise of the season has to be the first place Arizona Diamondbacks out of the NL West. This team is 23-18 on the season, are fifth in the National League in team batting average with a .265 average and they have the best home record in baseball so far with a 17-8 record. The biggest disappointment has to be the last place Toronto Blue Jays. This team has failed expectations this year by going 9-18 their first 27 games. They are in the bottom of baseball in almost every offensive category. Their best players – Josh Donaldson and Jose Bautista – have been struggling early.

Okay, enough on those teams. Let’s take a look at the top five teams in baseball in our Power Rankings. At #5 are the New York Yankees. This team has been a big surprise and currently boasts the fifth best home record in the American League at 13-6 record and have hit the third most home runs in baseball at home with 58. New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge has been phenomenal this season and sits among the league leaders in home runs with 14.

The #4 team in the Power Rankings are the Baltimore Orioles, a team that has battled with the Yankees for first place in the AL East. They are a power team and are 6th in the AL in home runs with 52. They have also played well against their own division where they have posted a 15-9 record against the AL East. They also are 8-5 in one run games this year.

The #3 team on the Power Rankings list is the Houston Astros, who currently have the best record in the AL at 18-12. They have owned the AL West with a 17-6 record against division opponents so far this year. Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers has been outstanding, and he is sixth in the AL in strikeouts with 57. Also, the Astros pitching staff leads baseball in strikeouts with 400 this year.
The #2 team in the rankings is the Washington Nationals, a team that has been outstanding offensively. They lead baseball in slugging with ..492 average, and they lead baseball in batting average at a .284. The Nationals average 6.8 runs per game and are led by first baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who is having a resurgent season so far. Zim has 13 home runs to start the year, which places him tied for second in the NL for most home runs. Also, he is second in the NL with a .385 batting average. What a start for Ryan Zimmerman.

The #1 team is the Chicago Cubs, because they are still the best team in baseball. The Cubs are top fifteen in baseball in runs with 181, and are led by third baseman Kris Bryant, who is having a good start to his season and currently stands tied for sixth in the NL in doubles with 12 on the season. Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber has been outstanding this year, and in his short time in the majors, he has shown great power. In fact, he is the fastest Cub player ever to reach 20 home runs, which he did in just 97 games.
