As we move through January, the vast majority of college application deadlines have passed with just a few spilling into February. In fact, we have even moved into college acceptance season as some seniors have begun to hear from their early decision and early action schools.
Now that the stress of applications are all but done and have been replaced by the excitement of acceptance letters and offers, Mainstream wanted to gain some insight into how seniors feel about submitting their final applications, and where they hope to see themselves this Fall.
Mainstream: How do you feel after submitting your final applications?
Javon: “I applied for trade school; hopefully trying to get my CDL.”
Cienna: “I finished the majority of them. I’m still working on my regular or rolling admissions, but it does feel nice to get a lot of them out of the way. Feels free.”
Vincent: “I finished my college applications, and I’m accepted and committed to the University of Wisconsin Madison.”
Mainstream: What was the most difficult or stressful part of applications for you? How did you cope?
Opeyemi: “Definitely the writing sections, because I wanted to put a lot of thought into everything I wrote. Going through a million drafts of writing, I just ended up surviving, staying up every night, and talking to my friends about it.”
Latalia: “Scholarship writing, and the word count mainly, but I listened to music throughout all of it for inspiration.”
Carter: “Writing all the supplemental essays was stressful, but I took them down one at a time.”
Mainstream: What school – or schools – are you most excited about and/or hopeful in terms of gaining acceptance? Why?
Javon: “Immediately getting on the road and getting to work, cause the faster I work, the faster I collect the paychecks.”
Cienna: “#1 pick would be Towson. It’s close but also far away, so I could meet new people and stay in touch with my family.”
Opeyemi: “I’m most excited for Howard, cause I got in with a scholarship. At the same time I’m hopeful for an acceptance from UMD.”
