Naomi Kyei-Asare

Naomi Kyei-Asare, Staff Writer

Have you ever seen a set of twins and never been able to tell them apart? You may have called one twin the other’s name mistakenly, tried to point out minor differences between the two, or even asked them questions all twins hear such as “Can you read each other’s mind?” However, when it comes to the Kyei-Asare twins, Naomi and Nicole, these are mistakes you would never make.

Naomi Kyei-Asare, a Junior at Paint Branch, might be a twin but recognizing her is an issue you don’t have to worry about. “I am the twin that people would consider a party animal...the wild child,” says Naomi, “literally my friend will text me like you wanna do a stick and poke, and I be like yeah.”
As twins, you could say that the pair could be described best as Yin and Yang, with Nicole as the Ying, symbolizing passiveness, and Naomi the Yang. In ancient Chinese philosophy, Yang is the positive, bright, and expressive principle; this really defines Naomi in all aspects.

If you were to ask someone who knows her what Naomi is like, they would, according to her, point out two things, her bluntness and confidence. “People describe me as very blunt,” she says, “I just say what it is.” Yet she would most often be characterized by her confidence. Naomi exudes confidence in the way she presents herself, her mannerisms, and even down to the way in which she expresses herself. When asked to describe herself, she says “...I’m very confident. Like- I don’t care what anybody thinks.”

When Naomi steps into a room, her presence draws attention, especially her most prominent feature: her style. Naomi’s style in one word: unparalleled. As a Vine fan, her style could be alluded to Remy Ma’s, “Rest in Peace to the chicks dying to be me.” It is no surprise then that Naomi likes to spend money on stylistic things. In fact, she says, “I buy a lot of stuff...probably like more clothes...more of that.” More importantly, her fondness for fashion is more than a niche, she would like to pursue it as a career at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

One thing about Naomi is she does not play when it comes to family, with special emphasis on her twin and her late father. Anything pertaining to the two will be deemed fighting words in her eyes, “...I try not to let ppl take me out my peace but no it would be up.” Though she is mainly just a calm, charismatic person.
